One of North America’s largest electric utilities, with over 13,000 employees, this long-time UMT360 client provides 15 million people with electricity across a service territory of approximately 50,000 square miles. This includes hydroelectric generation, electricity transmission and distribution services, and some water and natural gas services.
Evolving how work is managed
This client was predominantly executing projects as waterfall, using Microsoft Project Online. With the help of UMT360’s expertise and software tools, This client has rapidly transformed their development efforts to an Agile methodology, using ALM Octane. Line-of-business constituents include IT, Security, Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, all of whom plan to integrate additional project management tools, including Microsoft Project for the web.
Demand / Ideation Intake
This solution allows all members of the organization to create project requests. These flow directly into 360 Portfolio Insights where they are evaluated. This reduces the licensing requirements for the solution. Features include:
- Azure Web App
- An event-based model that tracks and manages status changes and generates email notifications
- Bi-directional data sync to ensure that all information is current and accurate
Agile Transformation is supported in the transition with 360 Portfolio Insights. The entity model is revised with the appropriate artefacts. The new entity model then allows for cost management and allocations, as well as more effective governance. As part of the solution, a two-way integration to the customer’s preferred Agile development tool, ALM Octane, was implemented. This enabled:
- Explicit support for Agile entity types with ALM Octane integration
- Top-down management and strategic alignment of portfolios, initiatives and value-streams
- Right-sized governance controls
Moving from legacy platforms
UMT360 helped the client migrate the work management tools across all business units to help support their need for more effective strategy execution. By migrating to 360 Portfolio Insights, the organization was able to optimize the work management tools of choice for each team, while also updating the user-interface and architecture to better support the organization moving forward.
