Cumulative Update 4 (CU4) for Project Financial Server 2010

Written by Alexandra Schiopu on September 15th, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Cumulative Update 4 for Project Financial Server 2010 provides the following enhancements in response to customer and partner feedback:

  • Language packs
    • Added Finnish as the 5th fully supported language (alongside English, German, French, Spanish)
    • Updates to the German Language Pack
  • License compliance warning
    • The following message is displayed in the Project Financial Server – Financial Settings page when the number of CALs assigned to the PWA instance is exceeded:Compliance warning: The number of Project Financial Server users on your PWA instance exceeds the number of Client Access Licenses (CALs) assigned. Please work with your implementation partner or contact licensing@projectfinancial.com to purchase additional CALs
  • UI improvements
    • Added new stage-level setting to Display All Years. This option specifies if Cost and Benefits values will be displayed, by default, for all the years in the timeline. If this option is not checked, values will be displayed by default for the first year only (pre-CU4 behavior)
    • A number of informal/warning messages are now displayed in blue instead of red. Red is still used to display errors
    • Added new global setting for showing/hiding the currency symbol: Show currency symbol for financial values. If this option is unchecked, the currency symbol will not be displayed next to the numeric value
  • Cube
    • Fixed cube creation errors when using a SQL named instance
  • Access and security
    • Added new permission that controls whether a user can restore a version: Restore Financial Data Version. The new permission has to explicitly be checked for existing groups after the CU4 installation
    • Fixed admin-only cross-site scripting issues
  • Programmability
    • New event: OnReportingCompleted – fired after the reporting job finishes copying values from Main DB to the Reporting DB
    • New event: OnFinancialValuesRead – fired after the values are read from the UI (web-parts). Can be used for changing the way the values are displayed

Cumulative Update 3 (CU3) for Project Financial Server 2010

Written by Alexandra Schiopu on July 28th, 2011 at 11:10 pm

Cumulative Update 3 for Project Financial Server 2010 provides the following enhancements in response to customer and partner feedback:

List of issues addressed by CU3:

  • Setup, installation, provisioning
    • The installer can be executed in silent mode, with the following command line parameters:
      • /s: starts the setup in silent mode,
      • /i: installs the package,
      • /u: uninstalls the package, and returns the following codes: 0 – success, 1 – error (invalid parameter) and 2 (other error)
      • /pk:<product key>: sets the product key
      • /ak:<activation key>: sets the activation key
  • Workflow
    • Better error handling for the case where the SMTP server is not properly configured
    • Better handling of the case where some approval tasks are deleted and the workflow could end up in the next stage
    • Better race condition handling on workflow submission to next stage that could lead to the following message: “An error has occurred in the workflow. Contact your system administrator”
    • Fixed incorrect logging of errors under additional workflow data when the web part used for entering minimum/maximum amount validation was in admin or view mode
    • Improvements to sending notifications to a group when a project is submitted to the next stage
  • Web Parts
    • Users without “Save project to Project Server” category permission are able to see all project’s web parts in read only mode
    • Fixed incorrect error reporting on submission of an Actuals period following the deletion of the approval group
  • Logging
    • Fixed the Unknown logging category under the Diagnostic Logging page in SharePoint Central Administration
    • The default logging is now information or medium for all categories. It was set toverbose for Queue and Setup.
  • Administration
    • An administrator account can be specifically defined to be used for calls to the PSI instead of the default site owner. A new people picker field has been added to the Edit Project Financial Server extension page, similar to the one used by Project Server for the administrative account
    • The product version was reporting an incorrect value when having other UMT products installed on the same machine
    • The total number of CALs is automatically assigned to the first created PFS instance in multi-tenant environments
    • Improved error reporting in the Manage License page if the PWA site is in an inconsistent state
  • Other fixes
    • Project Server 2010 SP1 support: prior to CU3, a JS error is displayed for certain project-level operations such as Save or Submit due to an infrastructure change introduced by Project Server 2010 SP1
    • Fixed minor typos
    • For a certain actual period, in Review Actuals only cost centers with values on this period are displayed in bold
    • Cost Categories no longer disappear when change user locale
    • Fixed digital signature envelope for UMT.CostModule.Upgrade.dll
  • Cube
    • Fixed difference in the values stored by the Project Financial Server and Project Server cubes for fractional numeric fields due to unnecessary rounding

UMT Project Financial Server 2010 Cumulative Update (CU) 2

Written by Alexandra Schiopu on May 26th, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Cumulative Update 2 for Project Financial Server 2010 provides the following enhancements in response to customer and partner feedback:

Setup, installation, provisioning

  • The install / uninstall action checks if Project Financial Server 2010 dlls are locked by processes. If DLLs are blocked by Project Financial Server processes, an application recycle is performed. Otherwise users will see the list of third party application(s) locking UMT Project Financial Server 2010 DLLs. If setup continues without stopping those applications a reboot is required
  • The upgrade code is now executed automatically by SharePoint Configuration Wizard after a Project Financial Server 2010 Patch (CU) / UMT Project Financial Server 2010 Major Upgrade is applied. Editing the Project Financial Server Extension for upgrading DBs is no longer required after a Patch or Major Upgrade is applied
  • Updated patch install steps:
    • Run UMTProjectFinancialServerPatch.exe
    • Run SharePoint Configuration Wizard

Project without workflow

  • Pseudo-workflow stage transition no longer fails when the PDPs assigned to the Enterprise Project Type contain web parts derived from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebPart

Web parts

  • All Project Financial Server web parts default to Edit mode. This addresses a confusing behavior introduced by SP1 where the Timeline web part was to View mode automatically and was not editable out of the box
  • All web parts wait for the Project Server Queue to unlock the current project (ProjectHasWriteLock error is no longer shown)

Cost and Benefits Timeline

  • There are 2 new methods in the public  Project Financial Server 2010 API – Project Phases service:
    • UpdateInstanceCostTimeline(Guid projectUid, DateTime startDate, DateTime endDate, UMT.CostModule.Library.Data.TranslationType valuesTranslationType) – Updates the cost start and end date for the project with the given UID with the given values. Cost values will be redistributed based on the given translation type
  • UpdateInstanceBenefitsTimeline(Guid projectUid, DateTime startDate, DateTime endDate, UMT.CostModule.Library.Data.TranslationType valuesTranslationType) – Updates the benefits start and end date for the project with the given UID with the given values. Benefit values will be redistributed based on the given translation type
  • The restriction of explicitly avoiding non-working days for the cost and benefits start and end dates is removed. Non-working days are not taken into consideration in calculations.
  • When updating the cost and benefits start and end dates using the public UMT Project Financial Server 2010 API – ProjectPhases service, cost and benefits start and end dates are automatically normalized.

SQL database connections

  • All SQL database connection leaks are fixed (connections are disposed when they are not used anymore)

Performance improvements to Resources Event Handlers

  • When a resource is deactivated or permissions are removed we the workflow approval tasks are no longer deleted. Those tasks can be approved or rejected by the administrator or another resource with appropriate privileges. This addresses a potential performance issue on Add/Modify Users.

Internet Explorer 9 compatibility

  • Cost center filter is now working properly with IE9

Logging

  • More info is added in log for every method from cmWeb service.

Other

  • Ability to delete multiple cubes from OLAP Database Custom Field Configuration page
  • No JavaScript error when pressing the Settings Ribbon button from the Project Plan Mapping web part
