It’s time for the PMO to focus on the big picture

No, the UMT360 team didn’t come up with the theme for this year’s Gartner PPM & IT Governance Summit. But we certainly could have. Because from our perspective, the event’s theme — Thriving on Digital Chaos: Innovation, Agility and Collaboration — sounds exactly like what we’ve been telling our clients for years now.

We’ve long held that the old ways of managing projects need to give way to a new, more strategic mindset. The world continues to move faster. Change is constant and digitalization is disrupting everything. The organizations that see the most success place a premium on being agile. They embrace innovation and they understand the importance of being connected and the power of collaborating across the enterprise.

Ironically, in the face of all this innovation and disruption, many organizations continue using out-dated PPM methods developed over 40 years ago. It’s an execution-orientated approach that could be costing them up to 46% of the business value from their project and programs. Simply managing projects as projects, as opposed to treating them like the strategic investments they are, makes it impossible to reclaim that lost value.

Fortunately, simply adding critical business planning and controls can help transform PPM. And that’s what we’ll be talking to folks about — providing them with the innovation they need to get the broader perspective and insight. Speaking of seeing the bigger picture, we’re also be giving away a 60″ HD Ultra TV!

So if you’re at the show, be sure to stop by our booth (#506) while on site to enter to win the grand prize. And if you use Microsoft Project Online or Project Server, you can even qualify for a second entry!
