Why do you invest in projects and programs?  A simple question, but one that many employees likely can’t answer.  All investments are made to generate an outcome.  Whether that’s financial, reputational, regulatory, or any other category label you want to apply, every investment – in projects, programs, products, capabilities, technologies, et al has to produce a meaningful outcome or it fails.

UMT360 v6.3 – Product Update 3

We’re pleased to announce the availability of UMT360 v6.3 – Product Update 3 (PU3). Product Updates include all previously released public updates and private hotfixes. We strongly recommend that any patch and release is validated in a non-production environment first before being applied to production environments.

Here is a list of changes that will be introduced with this update:

  • Major new features:
    • Strategy Hub
      • Strategy Hub is now broadly available. It provides a streamlined experience of defining business strategy and tracking results across the enterprise
      • Manage all enterprise Strategic Objectives in one place and provide stakeholders with visibility into the real-time progress of each objective
      • Establish and define financial & non-financial metrics for each strategy and set targets to ensure that outcomes can be measured
      • Track the value realized by each initiative, using time-phased forecasts and actuals on each metric
      • Roll-up initiative-level forecasts and actuals to the metric-level
      • Drive progress of objectives based on completion of their underlying metrics
  • Portfolio Hub
    • Fixed issue when filtering or formatting columns using option set values that are subsequently deleted
    • Fixed issue with Entity Type names not being updated in the Create View page
    • Fixed issue with users being able to create Views using Entity Types that they do not have access to
  • Resource Management
    • Added the ability to manage time-phased resource rates
    • Added the ability to use a Move adjustment type when changing Resource Plan timelines
    • Added the ability to filter values by year in the Resources and My Resource Plans web parts
    • Added the ability to remove the Team column from the My Resource Plans and My Resources web parts
    • Added an E-Mail Address column to the Add Resources dialog
    • Fixed issue with Resource Fields using option sets not being available in several OData views
    • Fixed performance issue in the My Resources web part when having a large number of UMT360 Entities in the system
    • Fixed performance issue when synchronizing a large number of resources from Microsoft Project
    • Fixed performance issue with the SnapshotAssignmentValuesWeekly OData view
  • Portfolio Manager
    • Individual resource assignments generated through Team Assignments are now available in Portfolio Manager
    • Added the ability to summarize resource information by Team
    • Added the ability to filter included resources by Team
    • Fixed issue with how Legend values are ordered
  • Roadmap Manager
    • Added the ability to pin, collapse and reposition milestone dialogs in roadmaps
    • Added the ability to create, edit or delete Key Events in shared roadmaps
    • Added the ability to manually set colors when grouping or coloring by Entity Type
    • Increased the Name and Description character limit for milestones
    • Improved the Search Related Entity control from the Create Relationship dialog
    • Fixed issue with Milestone Templates not being assigned to UMT360 Entities when their Timeline for Roadmaps setting is driven by UMT360 Entity Fields
  • Other
    • Added the ability to synchronize Enterprise Financial Types and Resource Plan timelines
    • Added the ability to programmatically update UMT360 Field values when defining workflows
    • Fixed issue with financial values not being available for reporting when using certain Allocation Center settings
    • Fixed UI issue in the UMT360 Workflow Visualization web part when using custom workflow images
    • Fixed issue when submitting UMT360 Entities to the next workflow stage from a form that display more than one Entity Details web part
    • Snapshotted UMT360 Fields are now available in the SnapshotCustomFieldValues OData view
    • Fixed issue with snapshots created on workflow stage transitions not being available in the cmSnapshotValues OData view, when using a Copy Forecast to Budget stage transition as well
    • Fixed issue with Enterprise Association Fields using option sets not being available in the EntityFieldsValues OData view
    • Fixed issue when creating Option Sets of type Cost
    • Fixed issue which allowed duplicate values to be saved in Option Sets
    • Fixed performance issue when updating the Current Year global option while Custom Granularities are being used by a large number of entities
    • Fixed issue with the Modified By field not displaying the correct value
  • Programmability (CSOM interfaces)
    • Milestone fields with option sets can now be updated programmatically
    • Assignment fields with Project lookup tables can now be updated programmatically
    • Fixed issue with Enterprise Association Fields not being updated when relationships are created programmatically
    • Fixed issue with field values not being filtered by their associated options sets or lookup tables in CSOM
    • Added the ability to read Queue Jobs programmatically
    • Added CRUD operations for UMT360 time-phased resource rates
    • Added events for resource assignments: AssignmentsCreated, AssignmentsDeleted
    • Added events for milestones: MilestonesCreated, MilestonesDeleted, MilestonesUpdated, AllMilestonesDeletedOnEntity
    • Added events for relationships: RelationshipCreated, RelationshipDeleted, RelationshipUpdated
    • Fixed issue with wrong events being triggered for operations performed on financial breakdowns

In an earlier post, we looked at roadmaps, something that has been getting a lot of attention in the last couple of years.  Most will agree that roadmaps need to have substance behind them and their purpose is to improve your ability to run your business and make key decisions.  And perhaps most importantly, they must have the ability to support portfolio analytics.

What’s the status of your status reports?

Since project management first became a formal discipline, status reports have been the bane of every project manager’s life.  Team members hate having to stop their work to update them.  Stakeholders doubt the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of them.  PMOs feel as though they spend way too much trying to corral them.  And leadership largely ignores them.

Roadmaps are the key to driving all transformation.

If your business doesn’t already some roadmaps, then you probably feel as though you should have them.  Because that’s what everyone seems to be been talking about – you have to have roadmaps, you can’t manage your business without roadmaps, roadmaps will unlock your strategic potential.  And on, and on, and on.
